[라이브 아카데미] 영어 연습 가이드 - 방법과 아이디어를 제안할 때

누군가와 무언가를 같이 결정하는 과정에서 아이디어를 제시/제안할 때 사용할 수 있는 표현.
Let's do something - ~하자. / we could always do something - 언제나 ~ 할 수는 있다. / what if - 이렇게 하면 어떨까? / I was thinking that maybe we could - 이렇게 하는 것도 방법이라는 생각이 들었어.

A: All right, I think we've covered all the essentials. Now, on to some specific matters like 'transportation'...
좋아. 가장 중요한 내용은 다 이야기된 거 같고. 이제 '교통편' 같은 좀 구체적인 사항으로 넘어가서...

B: Well, what if we just put everyone in groups of 3 or 4 and carpooled?
뭐, 그냥 3명이나 4명씩 그룹 지어서 카풀을 하는 게 어떨까?

A: Yeah, we could always do that.
응, 물론 그런 방법은 늘 있지. 

C: You know, I was thinking that maybe we could rent a bus. You know, one of those charter buses.
있잖아, 난 버스를 대여하는 것도 방법이겠다는 생각이 들어. 왜 그 관광버스 같은 거 있잖아.

A: Hmm, that would make things simpler.
흠, 그게 더 간단하긴 하겠다.

B: Yeah, that's actually a good idea. Let's tell everybody and see what they think.
응, 그거 진짜 좋은 생각이다. 사람들한테 이야기해서 어떻게 생각하는지 보자.

cover가 "다루다"라는 의미도 있지만 (다루다로 단정 짓기보다는) "이야기가 되다"라는 느낌도 있다.

(moving) on to something - something으로 (주제가) 넘어가다
on to 앞에 moving이 생략된 거라고 볼 수 있다.

뭐, 그냥 3명이나 4명씩 그룹 지어서 카풀을 하는 게 어떨까?

what if - 이렇게 하면 어떨까?(가정)

A: Yeah, we could always do that.
응, 물론 그런 방법은 늘 있지. 

we could always do something - (다른 더 좋은 방법이 없다면) 언제나 ~ 할 수는 있다.
직역하면 "우리는 항상/언제나 어떻게 할 수 있다" -> 의역되어서 "이렇게 하는 방법은 언제나 있다."
다른 대안이 없을 경우, (특별한 방법이 아닌) 이미 다들 잘 아는, 보편적인 방법에 대해 이야기할 때 사용할 수 있는 표현이다.

있잖아, 난 버스를 대여하는 것도 방법이겠다는 생각이 들어. 왜 그 관광버스 같은 거 있잖아.

I was thinking that maybe we could - 이렇게 하는 것도 방법이라는 생각이 들었어.
매우 조심스럽게 (아이디어를) 제안할 때 사용하기 좋은 표현.

내가 말하고자 하는게 정확히 어떤 건지 잘 모르겠고 정확하지 않은 상태에서 "관광버스 같은 거 있잖아." 이런 느낌으로 아주 많이 사용하는 표현이 'one of those'

A: Hmm, that would make things simpler.
흠, 그게 더 간단하긴 하겠다.

that would make things simpler. - 그렇게 한다면 상황을 더 간단하게 만들 거다.
긍정적인 이야기뿐만 아니라 부정적인 느낌으로도 사용할 수 있다.
"But that would make things more complicated."

B: Yeah, that's actually a good idea. Let's tell everybody and see what they think.
응, 그거 진짜 좋은 생각이다. 사람들한테 이야기해서 어떻게 생각하는지 보자.
